Barbarian Night

“Once at night I heard banging on the door. I thought someone was going to turn in musical instruments. I opened the door and the hall was full of militiamen. And they told us: ‘Get dressed, you shall come with us!’ Nothing else. We couldn´t even take our blankets.”

  • born on January 6, 1929 in the village of Staré Hory
  • 1935 – 1940 attended elementary school in Považská Bystrica
  • since 1940 studied at the Salesian Grammar School in Šaštín for five years
  • during the night of April 13 - 14, 1950 he experienced the so-called Barbarian Night
  • in September 1950 he enlisted in the Auxiliary Technical Battalions (PTP)
  • 1952 was arrested during the service in PTP by the State Security
  • December 24, 1953 sentenced for conspiracy against the republic
  • spent eight months in Jáchymov uranium mines
  • after being released he had various jobs and was constantly monitored by the State Security (ŠtB)
  • 1963 – 1966 studied at the Secondary Technical School of Construction
  • he lives retired in Žilina
